Muslims celebrate two Eid in a year. First is Eid-ul-Fitr which we also call “Choti Eid”. Muslims celebrate at the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The second is Eid-al-Adha muslim celebrate this on the 10th of Zilhaj (the last Islamic month) We will see Eid al adha greetings also . This is the bigger of the two and we call it “Bakra Eid”. We will see some of the glimpses of Eid-ul-Adha.

What is Eid-ul-Adha and how Muslims celebrate it?

When eid al adha 2021, we did not see much hustle and bustle but now in 2022 we see much of the happinesss and celebration of it. Many people ask that what is the meaning of Eid al adha? Because they do not know much about it. So, here is the information. This Eid is celebrated in the honor of the will of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail (Ishmael) in obedience to the commandments of Allah. But before Ibrahim sacrificed his son, Allah offered him a lamb to sacrifice as the replacement of his son, which he was ready to sacrifice in the name of God.

How is the celebrating Eid ul adha

As a ritual To celebrate eid al adha impact the animals are slaughtered. Families who provide animals eat some of the meat, and distribute the rest to the poor and needy people. People visit each other and offer Sweets and gifts .

What is the Duration of Eid-ul-Adha?

The first day of this Eid is the 10th of Zilhaj and it lasts for four days straight. Muslims slaughter animals on the First, Second and Third day of Eid. 

What kind of animals are to be slaughtered?

The beast of cattle for instance cows, goats, sheep, and oxen are suitable for the sacrifice. Some specific animals can be sacrificed other than that many animals cannot be sacrificed as they are prohibited in Islam for example pigs, Lion, etc.

Is there any age limitation for sacrifice?

Animals must reach a suitable age limit for the selection of sacrifice. It is different from animal to animal. For example for sheep, it is between 6 and 12 months. For goats, it’s a year and for cows, it is about 2 years

Is there any health requirement for the animal to sacrifice on eid al adha?

Yes, some health requirements matter a lot. Keep these points in your mind when you are purchasing an animal for sacrifice.

Below are some issues that make an animal unsuitable for sacrifice:          

  • If the animal is blind then there is a simple no for that. 
  • The second one is including the blind or visually impaired.
  • Animals that are sick are not suitable for sacrifice.
  • Seriously injured Animals, affecting their health are also not suitable.
  • The Dead animals of course.
  • Animals that have a very poor health conditions that you don’t want to even buy them.

Is sacrifice mandatory for every Muslim on eid al adha?

Sacrifice is mandatory for every Muslim who has a good state of mind has enough money and they can afford it easily and they are of a certain age of maturity. 

What are the intentions should be for the sacrifice?

Muslims must sacrifice an animal in the name of Allah (SWT) for the acceptance of the sacrifice. The goal should be generosity. You should be sincere with it. Show off is not a good thing. If you cannot afford an expensive animal then don’t do so but if you can do then don’t close your fists. Allah (SWT) knows our best goal.
